A land area larger than Western Europe, with more people than China, the Indian subcontinent is a lush region with commonality in food and culture. It is a new frontier to leverage food science and technology and a great arena for developing new agri-business opportunities for the benefit of the region. Opportunities for commercial growth abound, but challenges due to urban sprawl, regulatory issues, and resource conflicts, safety and trade barriers persist and come in the way of progress. To address some of these critical issues and provide a forum to exchange knowledge and expertise, an association of food scientists interested in this region has been established. It is envisioned that this association will become a center of excellence and catalyst to simulate growth in the area of food science and technology in the subcontinent.
The American Association of Food Scientists for the Indian Subcontinent (AAFSIS) includes members of the Institute of Food Technologists from the Indian Subcontinent - India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh, and other countries, associations, and individuals who have interest in the Indian Subcontinent.
